In a heartfelt ceremony held at the Mayor’s Parlour, in Carrick Town Hall, Mid and East Antrim Mayor Councillor Jackson Minford presented Cadet Sergeant Major (CSM) Ethan Moore with an ACCT UK Praiseworthy Action Award. This recognition highlights Ethan’s exceptional bravery and composure during a critical emergency, where he used his army cadet first aid training.

ACCT UK is proud to recognise cadets and adult volunteers of the Army Cadet Force (ACF) who give help and assistance in the community.

“It is a privilege to meet and present this award to CSM Moore and to support volunteers in this fantastic organisation. Ethan’s actions on the day of the incident at the Ballygalley Castle Hotel were nothing short of heroic.”

Mayor Councillor Jackson Minford

Bravery in the community

When a man suffered a heart attack, Ethan unhesitatingly stepped in. He put into action the life-saving skills he had gained through the ACF. His effective CPR ensured the man received immediate medical attention, allowing family members to be present during his final moments.

1st (NI) Battalion ACF’s Commandant commended on Ethan’s bravery, stating:

“This award recognises CSM Moore for his exceptional bravery and composure in a critical situation. He is an incredible young man whose actions in traumatic circumstances exemplify the values and training instilled in cadets.”

Colonel Sam Donnell

First Aid Training and Experience

Ethan’s commitment to first aid extends beyond this incident. Earlier this year, he demonstrated his readiness and willingness to assist others during a medical emergency at a cadet Summer Camp.

Since joining the Larne Detachment Army Cadets in July 2021, Ethan has dedicated considerable time and effort to the organisation, progressing to the role of Cadet CSM. His completion of first aid at work training in April 2025 further underscores his dedication to developing essential life skills.

In addition to this, Ethan is the current Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for HM Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim and Honorary Colonel of 1st (NI) Battalion ACF Mr David McCorkell KStJ. He recently returned from his Master Cadet Course at Cadet Training Centre, Frimley Park, England, which is recognised as the pinnacle of Army Cadet Leadership training, coming out as Top Student!

Ethan’s Detachment Commander commented:

“The impact of this award, along with his other achievements, serves as a testament to Ethan’s character and dedication.”

Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) John Johnston

Cadet CSM Moore’s courage and competence will inspire his peers and reflect positively on the ACF as a whole. First aid is not just a skill but a vital lifeline that can make a significant difference at any moment.

Ethan was joined on the evening by his family, all of whom celebrated this remarkable achievement.
