We are delighted to support the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Battalion in their initiative to revive archery, a sport with a rich history within the unit. This grant has enabled eight Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) to become qualified Archery Instructors, an initiative poised to rejuvenate their archery programme that has struggled to recover post-pandemic.

Archery was once a beloved activity within the Battalion, but many of their previous instructors did not renew their qualifications, causing a decline in the sport. By providing grants to attend the Archery GB Instructor course, ACCT UK is helping to ensure that eight CFAVs are now equipped with the skills and qualifications needed to teach archery safely and effectively. This development not only revitalises the sport within the Battalion but also enhances the cadets’ experience, offering them a new, exciting activity that fosters teamwork, precision, and patience.

The impact of this training extends beyond just the training weekends and Annual Camps; it empowers the Battalion to sustain and grow its archery programme independently, reinforcing their commitment to a comprehensive and engaging Cadet experience. We are proud to play a part in this journey and look forward to seeing the positive outcomes and skills development that will undoubtedly flourish as a result.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the Archery GB Instructors course run by MRM Archery. Moira from MRM gave us all the necessary info required to tutor cadets safely and effectively on how to shoot a bow and arrow. Thank you, ACCT UK, for providing the funding for this course, enabling us to become qualified instructors in time for our summer camp where we will put these new skills to good use.”

“I attended the Archery GB Instructor course on 6 & 7 July 2024. As an archery novice, I learned the skill of becoming an archer first, and then how to share this skill with others in a fun but educational way. The instructors were both friendly and approachable, and Moira was extremely understanding of my dyslexia and existing back condition, ensuring I could participate without causing further injury or pain. Thank you, ACCT UK, for funding this course. I plan to use this qualification a lot within my Company and the wider Battalion.”

“I want to take this opportunity to thank ACCT UK and the board for the grant towards the cost of this course. The opportunity to qualify eight CFAVs within my Battalion allows us to deliver an additional sporting choice to our Cadets and offer an enhanced Cadet experience. These qualified adults will also help cement our ability to provide an in-house, self-sufficient AT package and allow us to grow our AT Hub.”
