ACCT UK is proud to have supported Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadets from Llandudno in their journey to participate in Joint Service commemorative events in Wormhout, France, and Belgium. This trip, which honoured the sacrifices made by soldiers during WWI and WWII, was in support of the Llandudno Town Council Twinning Committee and the Mayor of Wormhout.
The cadets and the adult volunteers participated in several significant acts of remembrance, laying wreaths and crosses at Wormhout cemetery and La Plaine au Bois, a site commemorating the tragic Wormhoudt massacre of 1940. This visit marked the first time many cadets experienced such a poignant international commemorative event, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for history.
“I have great respect for those involved in the massacre, and the museum was very thought-provoking.” Lance Bombardier Oliver Douse from Llandudno

“The events at the barn were heart-breaking and emotional and a life changing experience. The visit to Dunkerque was rewarding as my Great Granddad was evacuated from Dunkerque” Lance Bombardier Megan Morgan from Llandudno

The grant from ACCT UK was instrumental in overcoming financial barriers, particularly during these times of increased costs for transport and accommodation. The cadets and adult volunteers also engaged in fundraising and sought sponsorships to make this trip possible, highlighting the collaborative spirit within the community.
“The cadets and their leaders were a real credit to their services and Llandudno. They should all be very proud of themselves for representing their town, service, and country so effectively.” Cllr Greg JT Robbins, Chairman of Llandudno Town Twinning
