Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire ACF’s Young Carer Receives British Citizen Youth Award

We are delighted to announce that Peter Cordwell from Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire ACF has received the British Citizen Youth Award Medal of Honour, which was presented during an official ceremony at The Palace of Westminster.

The British Citizen Youth Award, now in its eighth year, celebrated 24 young individuals from across the UK who have made substantial contributions to their communities and society at large. These young individuals, driven by selflessness and dedication to various causes, actively raised funds and awareness. Each of them was honoured with The British Citizen Youth Award Medal of Honour at the Palace of Westminster.

Peter Coldwell, a 16-year-old cadet from Hertfordshire, was awarded the BCyA Medal by Lauren Petelinkar. Peter has been a devoted caregiver to his father, who is wheelchair-bound, since the age of nine, providing daily care and responding to emergency medical situations.

In addition, Peter volunteers at Herts Disability Sports Foundation, supporting individuals with disabilities in accessing sports activities like cycling and water-based sports. He offers essential assistance, teaches cycling, maintains bikes, and leads boxercise classes. Recently, he made a significant impact by boosting the confidence and social skills of an autistic child.

Dame Mary Perkins, Patron of the BCA, applauded these unsung heroes for their selflessness and community spirit.
