In a remarkable example of dedication and endurance, Donna Hawley is set to embark on an extraordinary cycling journey from London to Amsterdam. This gruelling 300-mile ride will raise funds for ACCT UK, supporting vital youth development programs.
Donna is an adult volunteer for the Army Cadet Force in Yorkshire and famed for her innovative fundraising efforts. She has already taken on many challenges including tandem skydives, head shaves, and long-distance walks. However, she describes this upcoming four-day cycling expedition as the most demanding yet.
“I’m feeling nervous, but so motivated!” Donna tells us. “The first day will be an experience as it’s the one we complete the highest elevation for!”
“This will be the toughest challenge I’ve ever done, (both mentally and physically),” Hawley explains. “I’ve done lots of different bike rides before but this one throws me in the deep end so it will challenge me!” The route, which includes over 6,000 feet of elevation gain, will push her to her limits. The first day alone includes over 4,000 feet of climbing.
Donna’s commitment is evident in her rigorous training regimen. “The training has been eventful,” she shares. “It’s challenging to prepare in both hot summer days and rainy conditions, but I’ve pushed through it all. Hopefully, this means I’ll be ready for whatever weather I encounter on the ride.”
The funds raised from this challenge will directly benefit young people in the ACF. These experiences are crucial for the personal development of young people in the cadet program.
“This is the third challenge I’ve completed for ACCT UK. I will always be fundraising for them because it’s important the cadets don’t miss out. The same for the adults, who are all volunteers, because we have fun too! ” Donna says. “Every penny we raise goes towards creating opportunities that can change lives.”
“Music is a big motivator for me!” she tells us. “Taylor Swift seems to keep me going at the moment! My peers and family keep me going as well by expressing their pride in me for what I do and pushing me to carry on no matter what!”
ACCT UK are hugely proud of Donna’s efforts. Her dedication is truly inspiring. Donna’s fundraising directly supports our work. Helping thousands of young people and volunteers access activities and development opportunities that have a positive impact for life.
Donna has set an ambitious fundraising target of £2,000 for this challenge. She stresses that contributions of any size can make a significant difference. “No matter how small the donation, every penny counts towards improving the lives of young people in the Army Cadet Force,” she says.
Donna’s unwavering spirit and commitment to youth development shine through as she faces this daunting task.
As she pedals from London to Amsterdam, Donna carries with her the hopes and aspirations of countless young people whose lives will be enriched by her extraordinary efforts.
